Learning. Love. Laughter.

Program & Aims

St. Alban’s Nursery, founded in 1972, offers a preschool program for children aged 1.5 to 5.

While still in its traditional home in the beautiful surroundings of St. Alban’s Anglican-Episcopal Church, the Nursery today is independently operated, and we welcome children of all religions and backgrounds while encouraging respect and tolerance for all.

Our aim is to provide purposeful and stimulating early childhood activities, which enhance each child’s growth and development. We believe that the early years are the most important time for exploration and discovery: that children need opportunities to create, play, make friends and learn whilst having fun.

Our program offers each child an atmosphere of warmth, understanding and a place to develop, both as an individual and as a part of a group.

It is designed to help children build the foundations for a lifetime of creative learning, based on two important  principles:

  • Each child is unique and every effort should be made to help them each develop to their fullest potential.
  • The early years from birth to six are vital. Children need every opportunity to strengthen positive attitudes towards themselves and others while learning during these years.

We know that your child is special! When you share that special person with us, you can be confident that he or she will be receiving the very best quality of personalized care and attention.

Focusing on each child's individuality

We offer a wide range of fun activities designed to promote learning and self-discovery. Our curriculum is inspired by the Montessori principles of free choice and caring guidance, to bring out and foster the uniqueness in each child.

We Introduce the first steps of reading, writing, number work, and nature in a simple. creative and enjoyable way.

Daily emphasis is placed on the creative arts, providing many opportunities for children to enjoy singing, dancing, story telling, simple drama and art work. Although the curriculum is discreetly structured, each child moves through it at his or her own pace.

Environment

For learning and play.

Small, very personalized, and set in a garden space only a few minutes from the Tokyo American Club and Azabudai hills, St. Alban’s Nursery focuses on developing each child’s individuality in a safe, nurturing atmosphere. We offer places for up to 25 children, in a mixed group of ages 1.5 to 5.

We meet each day in a spacious, bright and well equipped hall that is attached to the church. Activities are arranged on a low shelf unit within reach of even the smallest child. Children may work uninterrupted for long periods of time at tables or on the floor where they are naturally comfortable.

In addition to our spacious indoor facilities, where our comprehensive educational and creative program takes place, we have a large fenced and safety floored outdoor playground in a tranquil setting surrounded by trees, bushes and flowers.
We also have an ample parking available, making dropping off and picking up children safe and easy.
